Purkinje cell / Célula Purkinje (English and Spanish)

I teamed up with the Research team in Addiction and Neuroplasticity of Jaume I University, Spain to create original illustrations of Purkinje cells so that they can incorporate them in their investigation papers. 

As the paper they were writting was about a healthy Purkinje cell and an unhealthy one, I had to draw one "bloomed" with dendritic spines and another one lacking the majority of them.

This is what visually happens to your Purkinje cell when you take drugs. The Purkinje cell is localted in your lower brain. And this is what happens when you take on scientific illustration; you end up learning new things.

For these illustrations I used pastels and black pen.

El equipo de investigación de Adicción y Neuroplasticidad de la Universidad Jaime I de Castellón me ha encargado ilustraciones originales de la célula Purkinje para que puedan incorporarlas a los informes de sus investigaciones. 

El estudio que estaban desarrollando trataba sobre células Purkinje sanas y no sanas. Para ello tuve que dibujar una "florecida" con muchas espinas dendítricas y otra en las que éstas se habían reducido notablemente.

Esto es lo que visualmente le sucede a tu célula purkinje cuando tomas drogas. Pierde buena parte de sus espinas dendríticas. La célula Purkinje está situada en la parte inferior del cerebro. Y esto es lo que sucede cuando haces ilustración científica; al final aprendes algo nuevo. 

Para estas ilustraciones usé pasteles y bolígrafo negro.
